Getting Pregnant Tips

Getting pregnant can be tricky, but there are lots of tips that can make a real difference in your ability to conceive.  These pregnancy tips ensures your body is healthy for conception.

Eat the right foods

The food you eat has major impact on every part of our being. This is why eating healthily is vitally important as it affects our ability to conceive and bear healthy children. The body needs a whole host of minerals, vitamins, and micronutrients that are found in a range of foods. Make your diet varied  but make sure it includes essential fatty acids, fibre, complex carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Avoid foods with addictives, preservatives and pesticides in your food as this can compromise your ability to be fertile. Eating lots of meat is not recommended for those who want to conceive. This is because meat raises the body’s ammonia levels, which can inhibit the implantation of the egg in the uterus.

Cut out alcohol

It is a good idea for the couple to avoid alcohol for the period they are trying for a baby or at least to cut down dramatically. Alcohol lowers men’s sperm count, even when men are only drinking small amounts. It stops the body from taking in those vital minerals and vitamins that are needed for fertility. Also, drinking alcohol can potentially cause damage to unborn babies that may lead to miscarriages.

Have sex during the time you ovulate

Conception is best achieved when you have sex during this period. Following your menstrual cycle is a key part of tracking when you are ovulating and consequently when is your best time to conceive. Most women, who have a cycle of twenty eight days, ovulate on the fourteenth day. The Fourteenth day into your cycle, high levels of estrogen trigger the release of the egg which then lives for approximately twelve to twenty four hours. This is the tiny window of opportunity you have to fertilize the egg. However, sperm can live up to seven days in right conditions and so your chances of getting pregnant are best when you can determine exactly when you will be ovulating and have sexual intercourse around this timefor fertilisation to take place.

Stop Smoking

Smoking just like alcohol islinked to numerous health problems. While smoking has not been linked to a lowered sperm count, it does cause damage to sperm DNA, which results in an increased risk of birth defects in the man’s children. As well as the risk of birth defects, research has shown that both men’s and women’s levels of fertility drop significantly when you smoke. Smoking can also cause babies to be born prematurely and this affects their long-term health and even ability to survive. There is also an Increase in the risk of miscarriage, and putting your unborn baby’s health at risk is not the best way to start a family. Before you continue with trying to get pregnant, please try to stop smoking first.

Have sex in positions conducive for pregnancy.

Most experts believe that the missionary position (with the man on top) provides the best opportunity of conceiving, though no definitive studies have been done on this question. This position allows for the deepest penetration which deposits sperm closer to the cervix. In addition, the woman can try elevate her hips with a pillow so that her cervix is exposed to the maximum amount of semen. Avoid sexual positions with the woman on top, standing, or leaning positions, as the force of gravity can discourage the flow of semen to the uterus.

Do light, gentle exercise

Starting an exercise routine is a great way to get your body ready for pregnancy. Not only will it help in your weight loss efforts, but exercise stimulates essential hormones. Avoid rigorous fitness regimes as this can lower your chances of being fertile.

Get lubricated

one of the best ways to improve your chance of getting pregnant is to increase your vaginal lubrication. This can be achieved by introducing more foreplay into your “baby-making activities” which will increase your arousal and therefore you will have more natural lubrication to help the sperm to stay alive longer. In addition, if a man is more aroused, he will have a better ejaculation which results in more sperm, which is a good thing!!
